Weather forces weekend car show to reschedule several events

“The show will go on,” as they say, but in this case, a day later.

Heavy rain and strong winds have forced a shuffle in this weekend’s Emerson Fittipaldi Concours d’ Elegance Key Biscayne car show and festivities.

Saturday’s events have been pushed ahead to Sunday, from noon to 6 p.m., with the legendary Fittipaldi leading a parade of classic cars from Miami Marine Stadium into the Village while driving his historic Lotus Type 72, the vehicle he drove during his first of two F1 world championships in 1972.

The inaugural fashion show takes place at 2 p.m. at Monaco Square, and the awards ceremony for the cars will be at 4, with Fittipaldi on hand.

“What can you do?” said co-organizer H. Frances Reaves. “Emerson, too, understands, even with all his faith in God, he doesn’t always get his way.”

Still on schedule is the invitation-only VIP meet-and-greet on Friday night at the Key Biscayne Yacht Club, as well as the $500-a-plate gala on Saturday night at the Key Biscayne Ritz-Carlton.

The first ever Car Week took place in 2019. Here are Co-Founder Mary Tague, Mayor Mike Davey and Mia Davey, Emerson Fittipaldi, Co Founder Frances Reaves, and Tom Abreu, Counsel General of Monaco.

“It’s not the wind that would bother us, but no one wants to go out in the rain,” Reaves said.

Stormy weather will not hamper the free Seraphic Fire Christmas holiday concert, by the two-time Grammy-nominated vocal ensemble. That event occurs indoors at the KB Crossbridge Church on Saturday at 7 p.m.

And, on Sunday, the Marché de Noël Christmas marketplace is expected to still occur, from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. at Lake Park on East Enid Drive. The event, presented by the French Association of Crafts & Trades, features crafts and goodies from various artisans.

There is even a 4 p.m. raffle offered by French Bee Airlines for a chance to win two round-trip tickets from Miami to Paris.
