At EIMG’s vintage car show, a display of motoring heritage

Around 100 best heritage vehicles of Kolkata, including eight vintage Rolls-Royce cars, were displayed at “The Lake Club EIMG Concours D’ Elegance 2024” — a vintage car show — in Kolkata on Sunday.

Vintage car enthusiasts and curious onlookers came in large numbers at the Lake Club to get a glimpse of the classic automobiles and motorbikes selected by Shrivardhan Kanoria, a vintage car collector and restorer. Spanning several decades, the show displayed diverse collections of vintage cars and motorbikes.

“The event isn’t just a gathering of cars. It is celebrating the things of the past. I appreciate Shrivardhan Kanoria for organising such shows and he is so good at it. The way he restored Rolls-Royce shows his passion. I have a special love for old cars. I and my twin brother had bought one when we were 17 years old. Kanoria is doing a wonderful job by bringing all the enthusiast together and by organising a series of activities,” said 85-year-old vintage car Canadian enthusiast John Milne.

For the past five years, the Lake Club has been hosting the vintage car show in collaboration with Eastern India Motoring Group (EIMG), a group of heritage vehicle owners founded by Kanoria.

The daylong Concours D’ Elegance started at 9 am on Sunday. Besides providing a platform for the show, a competition was also held among the participants. The vehicles were judged on the basis of authenticity, restoration, maintenance, historical importance, and rarity. The trophies were sponsored by Julia Patnaik (Bhubaneswar), a leading vintage and classic car collector.

“My dream is to make Kolkata rich and famous in the sphere of vintage motoring. This move of Lake Club get-together with EIMG has been a big step towards preserving the motoring heritage of Eastern India. Special thanks to The Lake Club president, Tamal Mukherjee, the joint secretaries, Subrata Guha, Debabrata Dutta, and all the committee members of the Club, for the breathtaking venue, cocktail brunch, hoardings, and wonderful hospitality. The Concours dinner was hosted by EIMG member Rajiv Ghosh,” said Kanoria.
