TWO STANDOUT COPO CAMAROS SOLD AT BARRETT-JACKSON

As Chevrolet has ended production of the Camaro, opportunities remain to get your hands on these exceptional cars. Still, no opportunity is quite like the ones that showed up at Barrett-Jackson this year. Two COPO Camaro drag cars were sold at this year’s Barrett-Jackson auction in Scottsdale, Arizona. One serial, #001, was a 2022 model powered by a naturally aspirated big-block 572ci V8 engine. A big-block ZZ632 V8 engine powers the other. Both cars sold for over $100,000.

Barrett-Jackson COPO Camaro Auction: Details

Starting with the 2022 COPO Camaro drag car, which produces 727 horsepower and 680 lb-ft of torque. It has the Hand-Painted Graphics Package, a carbon-fiber hood and carbon intake, wheelie bars, Hoosiers, Bogart race wheels, and the Parachute Package. This factory drag car is optioned with a two-piece carbon-fiber hood, wheelie bars, COPO badges, COPO gauges, COPO embroidery on the seat back, a COPO license plate, chrome front and rear Chevrolet Bowties, darkened taillights, clear side-marker lamps, an extra battery charger hook-up, Hoosier drag-racing tires and Bogart race wheels. The car sold during the auction for a total of $110,000.

As for the 2023 COPO Chevrolet Camaro, this one received the ZZ632 big boi engine, producing 1,004 horsepower (10.35-liter) and 876 lb-ft of torque. This 2023 COPO Camaro is the most powerful, naturally aspirated car from any Big 3 American auto manufacturer. Sending that power to the rear wheels is a TH400 3-speed automatic transmission. This is Chevrolet’s proof of concept car for the 632. The block is a Tall Deck 632 Bowtie Sportsman with 4-bolt main caps. The cylinder heads are RS-X symmetrical port, CNC-machined aluminum, forged steel crankshaft, connecting rods, and pistons. It has electronic port injection. Keeping the COPO Camaro glued to the track are Hoosier drag racing tires on black Weld race wheels. The car also has wheelie bars, a carbon-fiber hood, dual batteries, and a parachute. This particular car sold for $171,600 during the auction.

The COPO program has only built 69 cars a year, with fewer than 700 examples since the program was restarted in 2012. Perhaps we’ll see these exquisite cars appear at drag strips in the future; if not, we’re sure they have very comfortable homes now with all their drag race glory.
