Toyota recalls 280,000 trucks and SUVs over transmission power problem

DETROIT — Toyota is recalling an estimated 280,000 trucks and SUVs because of a problem with the transmission that can cause the engine to receive power, even when the vehicle is in neutral. According to the Associated Press, the problem revolves around certain parts of the vehicles’ automatic transmissions that might not disengage when the vehicle is shifted into neutral.

If that happens, it can cause power to go to the wheels which may lead to the vehicle unintentionally creeping forward.

The recall involves:

  • 2022 — 2024 Lexus LX 600 SUVs
  • 2022 — 2024 Toyota Tundra
  • 2023 — 2024 Toyota Sequoia SUVs

Toyota did not say if any crashes or injuries have been caused by the problem. To correct the issue, Toyota dealerships will update the transmission software. Impacted owners will begin being notified in late April.
