2025 DeLorean Alpha5: Everything We Know So Far

This article covers a developing story. Continue to check back with us as we will be adding more information as it becomes available.

Key Takeaways

  • DeLorean is back with the Alpha5, a sleek and futuristic electric sedan that pays homage to the original DMC12.
  • The interior features a minimalist design with a large touchscreen infotainment system, emphasizing human experiences and connections.
  • The Alpha5 is expected to have impressive performance stats, including a sub-3.5 second 0-60 mph time, a top speed of over 150 mph, and a range of over 300 miles. Get ready to be impressed!

One of the most iconic names in the automotive world only ever managed to release one vehicle in its heyday, and, at the time, not a particularly successful one at that. However, DeLorean is back, and while its enigmatic namesake is no longer at the helm, (and, seemingly, his family isn’t too pleased with the new venture) the company is clearly still keen to do things a little differently.

The DeLorean DMC12 shot to fame following its feature in the blockbusting Back To The Future franchise, immediately spawning a niche following for the car which has only grown ever since. By the time the film came out, the original DeLorean Motor Company had already gone bankrupt, but now the name is back, and the new-look company has released one of the most exciting concept cars of recent times.

The Alpha5, a new electric car, will be a sedan released for the 2025 model year, but will it be any good? Is this a car that can bring the DeLorean name back to the future? Here’s everything we know.

What Do We Know About Its Exterior And Interior?

Eternally one of the gearhead’s favorite shapes, the sedan hasn’t had much love in recent times from the wider world, but the Alpha5 might be the car to turn that around. An all-electric sedan, the concept for this exciting new car is one of the most beautiful of recent times, and, for sure, one of Italdesign’s greatest hits. The Alpha5 is at once futuristic and, in places, slightly retro due to a couple of nods to the DMC12, DeLorean’s original vehicle. The car features a sleek and futuristic design with long, thin headlamps and an excellent aerodynamic profile.

Inside is a stunning example of minimalism, featuring a very similar aesthetic style to that of the modern Tesla range. The cabin is well-upholstered with high-quality materials and looks to be entirely bereft of buttons. Instead, there is a large touchscreen infotainment system, through which we imagine most of the car’s internal features will be controlled. DeLorean have said that they want the area to “encourage human experiences and connections”.

Finally, we are happy to confirm that the Alpha5 will feature gullwing doors, an aspect of the original DeLorean which would have been conspicuous by its absence if it wasn’t part of the new car. This is a car worthy of a Hot Wheels toy.

We are still reasonably far away from the release of the Alpha5 and while we learned a lot from our chat with DeLorean’s CMO, the majority of technical details have yet to be confirmed. Thankfully, we can make some assumptions about the Alpha5’s performance based on what we do know already.

We imagine that the EV underpinnings of the new DeLorean will be outsourced with dual-motor technology most likely for this supercar-level offering. There have been a good number of statistics bandied around when it comes to the Alpha5, but we think it’ll have an approximate 0-60 mph time of under 3.5 seconds, a top speed exceeding 150 mph, and a range of over 300 miles.

The Alpha5 will be a premium car and, as such, should have the performance statistics to match its status. Forget 0-60 mph, we want a sub-5-second 0-88 mph time.

When Is The Release Date?

There are still a number of details left to be confirmed when it comes to the release date and pricing information for the DeLorean Alpha5, but, excitingly, we are likely to find out a whole lot more about the car very soon at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance on August 20th, where DeLorean plans to have a car on hand.

We expect that the car will be released in the latter half of 2024, ready for the 2025 model year, and we’d estimate pricing of over $150,000 for such an interesting and advanced supercar-quick sedan.

Will the Alpha5 live up to the Delorean name and create a new legacy for itself to match that of its predecessor? We’re not sure, but one thing that is for certain is that the Alpha5 is a car we can’t wait for!
