Do You Drive One of These Trucks Popular in Minnesota that Has a Recall On It?

Pick-Up Trucks are popular in Minnesota for many reasons, from pulling recreational equipment, to farming, or using the 4-Wheel Drive during the winter. It’s hard not to see a truck every few seconds on the road as you drive around.

General Motors has announced an expanded recall they first put out last month. Reports state that GMC Sierras and Chevrolet Silverado models that were made between 2020 and 2024 are having an issue with their tailgates.

Water can get into the electronic gate release switch and cause the tailgate to open when the truck is being driven down the road or even when it’s sitting still.

There’s only been 1 injury reported to this point, and it was a minor injury, and there have been 3 reports of property damage.

In November, there were over 130 reports of tailgates releasing while the truck was in motion. Obviously one of the major concerns in this case is whatever is in the back of the truck falling out onto the roadway into the path of traffic following behind.

But there are other reports of the tailgate falling while the truck is just sitting still, which presents its own set of problems.

This recall affects 820,000 Sierras and Silverado’s. Originally the recall was thought to only affect 320,000 trucks, but after further investigation, the number grew by 500,000 trucks.

Owners of these model trucks are expected to be notified by March 18th that dealerships will be able to replace the part that is malfunctioning for free.
