Tesla Superchargers Open to Ford Drivers – Kelley Blue Book

A Ford EV owner plugs into a Tesla Supercharger using an adapter

Ford electric vehicle (EV) owners can now charge at Tesla Superchargers.

Different EVs often have different charging ports, so drivers can’t use every public charger. Tesla has its own type of port and operates the nation’s largest network of public chargers. Other manufacturers used different ports, serviced by a nationwide patchwork of different charging companies.

But last year, Ford negotiated the right to use Tesla’s charging tech. Virtually the entire auto industry followed. That will effectively standardize all EVs in America on one charger type and give everyone access to the Tesla Supercharger network.

But the move will be incremental. Ford has announced that “Ford F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E retail customers are the first of any non-Tesla automaker to gain access to Tesla Superchargers across the U.S. and Canada.”

They’ll need an adapter to use them, but Ford provides the device for free. Ford owners can obtain one at Ford’s website.
