Reports: Telsa Suspends Cybertruck Deliveries Over Sticking Accelerator Pedals – Kelley
Multiple media reports this morning say Tesla has halted deliveries of its Cybertruck pickup over allegations that the trucks’ accelerator pedals can stick in the down position, causing unintended acceleration.
Like many vehicles, the Cybertruck has a metal accelerator pedal covered by a replaceable cover that looks like shiny stainless steel. That cover, some owners say, can come loose and get stuck under a trim panel low on the dashboard, trapping the pedal in the down position and making the truck accelerate continuously.
TikTok user Jose Martinez posted a video of the alleged problem. When it happened to him, he says, he was able to bring the truck to a stop with its brakes. “But anytime I’d lift the brake, it would start accelerating again.”
He was able to shut off the truck once stopped safely.
Several users in the CybertruckOwnersClub forum report that Tesla has told them deliveries are on hold over the issue.
Tesla doesn’t operate a public relations office or answer reporters’ questions, so we can’t verify a stop-sale order. The federal government’s primary car safety watchdog – the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration – does not yet list a recall or formal investigation of the issue.
But Business Insider reports that the agency has contacted Tesla for more information about the alleged problem. The Cybertruck has just one active recall, a software update increasing the font size on certain warning messages.
